- Keep it brief
Your experience will more than likely have expanded since you last updated it so you will be adding to it.
However, keep it to two pages at the most – your employers may be getting hundreds of CV’s and want to go through them quickly.
- Remove the unnecessary details
CV’s which are dated would have had information such as religion, ethnicity, marital status and nationality on them which aren’t needed on an up to date CV.
Many of these details are filled out on online applications.
Jobs are also given with a non-discriminatory outlook and so on a CV it’s not crucial information.
- Tailor your CV to the job
Writing a paragraph of your long term ambitions and career plans aren’t important because your previous experience or covering letter should explain this. What you should do is highlight certain achievements, jobs and within them, attributes which would make you better for the job you’re applying to.
- Take out your references
At the early stages, references are not needed by the large majority of employers. All you need to outline is ‘references are available on request’ and have them at hand.
